The Application and Interview Process
When applying for an ITT place, you will need to demonstrate a drive for, and commitment to, a career in the classroom. Your application should also contain the following:
- A full detailed career history (including any gaps in employment with explanations detailing these employment breaks).
- Any relevant school experience or experience of working with children or young people.
- If you have a ENIC / NARIC statement, you will be asked to forward these via email on receipt of your application. Please ensure that you have these documents before applying so as not to delay your application progress.
Please note the IFT reference requirements below to be considered before selecting your referees:
The two references provided on your application should be appropriate referees (character references and references from personal email addresses will not be accepted) who can provide a strong endorsement of your skills, experience and suitability for training to teach.

A reference must be provided from your most recent employer if you have a work history. If you do not wish to provide this at the point of application it will be required later in the recruitment cycle.

If you are currently at university or have completed theiryour degree within the last five years, please provide one university referee who can comment on your academic ability.

If you have been employed by an educational institution or organisation at any time, a reference must be provided by the lead of the institution.
Once your application has been submitted
We aim to respond to all applications received within 5 days maximum. If you have not heard from us, please check your spam email folder as often our emails will end up there in the first instance.
Successful applicants will be invited to one of our face to face recruitment days. Interviews take place at partnership schools within your chosen hub area. Please note that due to the need to interview candidates as applications are received your interview location may not be held within the school in which you wish to train to teach. Please don't be discouraged by this, if you are successful at interview your hub team will work with you to ensure your training placement is in a school as local to your home as possible.
The interview will consist of:
- a ten-minute activity teaching a new skill to the interview panel
- activity follow-up questions;
- formal interview questions;
- a literacy task
You will also be required to present the following documentation:
- Original degree certificate (prediction from course tutor if graduating post offer) and GCSE certificates for Mathematics and English (and a Science subject for Primary phase applicants) or equivalent.
- Overseas qualification certificates - accompanied by an ENIC Statement of Comparability (if available at time of interview)
- Two forms of ID - preferably a passport and driving license.
Once an offer has been made, candidates do not have to decide whether to accept or reject the place until they have had responses from all their provider choices.
Following acceptance of a training place
All candidates will be required to complete the 'Elevate my Maths' programme to assess their fundamental numeracy skills prior to commencing the programme. Should you not meet the required standard you will have the opportunity to revise your areas of weakness and retake the test. It is your responsibility to address any shortfalls in order to meet the standard by the end of the training programme in order to be eligible for the award of QTS.
You will also be required to present the following documentation:
- Original degree certificate (prediction from course tutor if graduating post offer) and GCSE certificates for Mathematics and English (and a Science subject for Primary phase applicants) or equivalent. (if not already presented at interview)
- Overseas certificates - accompanied by an ENIC Statement of Comparability
- Proof of ID - passport and driving licence or birth certificate. At least one document will need to provide proof of address.
- For overseas applicants, evidence of eligibility to remain (settled status/visa)
- Relevant police checks for any applicant who has lived outside the UK for a period of 3 months or longer within the past 10 years.
The Hub will then carry out the following checks to determine suitability to teach:
- Occupational Health check - to assess health and physical capability to teach so that children and young people are not at risk of harm.
- Enhanced Disclosure DBS and safeguarding checks.
